Chateau Gruaud Larose, a Saint Julien second growth, is the best performing Bordeaux on the Liv-ex market so far this year along with Carruades de Lafite, the second wine of Chateau Lafite Rothschild, with both notching up 15 percent gains in their price index, according to an Insights post on the Liv-ex website dated Aug. 22.
Pomerol estate Vieux Chateau Certan was up 14 percent since the start of the year, while others in the top 10 gainers comprised second wines of leading first growths, along with top Sauternes and Barsac wines, according to Liv-ex. The price index for each estate is based on the 10 most recent physically-available vintages.
Chateau Coutet, a Barsac producer, was up 13 percent, while top Sauternes estates Chateau d'Yquem and Chateau Rieussec gained 10 percent and 9 percent respectively, according to Liv-ex. Petit Mouton, the second wine of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, rose 11 percent, while Chateaux Margaux's second wine Pavillon Rouge gained 10 percent and Le Clarence de Haut- Brion, the second wine of Chateau Haut-Brion, rose 9 percent.
Laggards included Chateau Climens, down 6 percent, and Chateau L'Eglise Clinet, down 1 percent, while Sauternes grower Chateau Suduiraut rose just 1 percent, according to Liv-ex. Those gaining just 2 percent included left-bank first growths Chateau Latour, Chateau Mouton Rothschild and Chateau Haut Brion, as well as Pomerol estate Chateau Lafleur.
